Sister Cities International grew out of a program initiated by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in the late 1950's for the purpose of promoting world peace through people-to-people contact. It is dedicated to letting people give expression to their common desire for friendship, goodwill and cooperation for a better world for all.
In 1992, the City of Arvada and a group of interested citizens founded Arvada Sister Cities International (ASCI), a 501c3 non-profit organization. ASCI's goals:
* To increase cultural awareness and understanding with other countries
* To promote educational exchanges
* To explore opportunities for economic development
* To serve as an exchange for ideas, technology, and municipal systems with our sister cities. Membership in ASCI is open to all interested individuals, families, businesses and organizations.
